Obituary for Robinson Coke Jones
Obituary for Robinson Coke Jones.

Robinson Coke Jones died at the family residence in Warren county, northwest of this place, Thursday morning, May 11, 1897, at 2 o’clock p. m., aged 74 years and 4 months.

Robinson Coke Jones, the subject of this sketch, was one of 11 children born to Richard Cannon Jones and Elizabeth Anderson Jones. Deceased was born in Dinwiddie county, Virginia, October 12, 1822. At the age of 11 years he with his parents came to Indiana. He learned the printers trade and for many years was a disciple of Faust, and for a while edited the People’s Friend in this city. At the breaking out of the Mexican war he laid down stick and rule, took up the musket and served through the war. April 19, 1851, he was united in wedlock with Emily Shelby, who survives him. To them was born six children, four sons and two daughters, four of whom passed over the river before him to welcome him home. A son and daughter survive him to mourn the loss of a kind and indulgent parent, and support a widowed mother in her declining years.

February 29, 1896, he united with the U. B. church and has since been a consistent member.

He was a man of ability and pronounced views, always taking a prominent part in the affairs of the community in which he lived; honored and respected by all who knew him. He will be missed from among men, but on the family falls the pall of sorrow that only the mercy of a just God can soothe and time heal. Peace to his ashes.

Covington Republican, Covington, Indiana, Friday, May 14, 1897.
